How International Trade Creates Opportunities For Workers

International trade creates opportunities for workers all over the world and that is why it is quite difficult to figure out why many trade unions across the world view international trade as a threat to workers.

Because of international trade, economic growth, employment and living standards in a country are always higher when compared to a country with a closed economy. In addition, American companies can sell their goods and services in other countries which will directly impact the revenue of the company for the better and thereby create more job opportunities as the company grows in size.

International trade in no reduces the sovereignty of the nation and it creates a strong incentive for the government to pursue sound economic policies. This way workers in the US will be protected from being over worked or doing dangerous tasks for little or no pay.

In addition, the standard of domestic products and goods go up when they have to compete with foreign goods and products being sold in the country. This way more care is taken in terms of quality and quantity. This automatically works in creating opportunities for workers.

In the United States, international trade is seen with mixed feeling especially when it comes to certain sectors and industries like oil and agriculture. The government has introduced too many subsidies to protect domestic manufacturers without realizing that in the long run, international trade creates opportunities for workers. However, things are not that simple and it is basically viewed by critics as vote gathering measure.

The largest Federal agency in the US which helps firms to compete in the global economy is the International Trade Administration. By joining this organization, you will be helping to create opportunities for US workers and firms by promoting international trade.
