Air freight is the most expensive method of transport for manufactured goods. If the consignment is small, then transporting goods through air freight become the most expensive option. But still, it remains to a popular choice for transporting smaller consignments.

Most of the air freight carriers operate globally, and a customer opting for the air freight transport can choose the route, service level and the airline. Some airlines are cheaper than the others because of more flights flying into that particular area or country. When choosing air freight carrier, it is a good idea to choose a popular and reliable company in the country of destination.

The route of the consignment can make a lot of difference in the cost of transport. The air freight carrier typically does not charge by the distance but by the weight of the consignment. In international flights, distance is never a factor. So, the companies prefer to charge by the weight of the consignment. You can choose the longest or the shortest route that will not affect the charges for transport. Most of the freight companies charge by calculating the weight or the volume of products.

Currently the air freight industry has gone through several changes with the new regulation procedures in effect. So, the pricing is not clearly mentioned as the air freight charges are calculated from point to point. Other charges like the pre-departure or post- arrival charges are calculated separately. Customs and other government regulation taxes are also charged separately. Insurance charges are not included in the freight charges, and therefore, are also calculated separately.
