Greece is a country that was surrounded by water and they mainly used water based transport for their means. The ship was the most advanced and useful means of transportation in Ancient Greece. Even today, Greece does not have great roads and they use the sea a lot to commute.
In Ancient Greece, a person did not need any other means of transport because they barely left their homes. Ancient Greeks conducted all their trade and commerce on the ships and almost every city in Ancient Greece had a harbor. The people of Ancient Greece got most of their basic daily needs by the sea side. To commute within the cities and by road, the Ancient Greeks used mules or horses. Horses were used by richer people while mules were used by smaller and poorer people. Most people in Ancient Greece were used to walking several miles at one stretch.
However, Ancient Greece still grew at a very fast pace because it has a very good transport system that helped the economic growth of the country. No other country in the world had advanced ships like Ancient Greece and many people were still learning to build ships at that time. Today, Greek economy may not be great but they do still have great ships.
