An efficient warehousing inventory system can help save money in the logistics department, production and manufacturing units. It also helps to save money in the sourcing department for the business. A single efficient department can show its results in all round development and growth in the business. Whichever way you look at a business whether in the clockwise direction or the anti-clockwise direction you will see that it end at the warehouse and then somewhere down the cycle, it starts back right from there.
Product surplus is created by the warehousing department and not by the production department. Mistakes in inventory could make the production go up unnecessarily and that would again increase the consumption of raw material and that leads to more investment. There are several ways to improve the inventory system in the warehousing department. One is to create checkpoints at frequent levels in the inventory. A cross checking functionality that can immediately identify surplus could be of great use. Also a good supply chain cycle can immediately identify surplus and damages in the warehouse department. Reverse logistics should not be treated as a separate department as many of the functionalities of reverse logistics and the warehouse correlate. Reverse logistics should use the warehouse inventory as a hub to re-supply.
